The two skin care products that save my oily skin

The two skin care products that save my oily skin

For as long as I can remember, my skin has been oily AF. Not dewy, not bright, no longer shiny like a pattern – oily. And no amount of people assuring me that I’ll age gracefully because that’s enough to make it Not bothersome. Even in winter, my T-zone is practically reflective and my makeup disappears at noon. As such, lightening masks and light moisturizers are cornerstones of my skincare routine, and so two new favorites entered the chat spectacularly: Sand & Sky’s Oil Control Moisturizer and Lightening Face Mask. .

The Australian beauty brand is behind some of the most viral products in recent history. Case in point, this highly regarded pink clay mask and their new range of Tasmanian spring waters. But, for now, Sand & Sky’s new Oil Control collection is sure to be your late summer MVP – or year-round MVP, for my fellow fat folks.

The first product I tried was Oil Control Clearing Moisturizer. From the start, I loved the packaging; I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but it doesn’t hurt when you look at it every morning on the bathroom sink. As you can see from the texture sample above, the moisturizer has a light, gel-cream texture that my skin immediately loved. After application it looked thirst-quenching but slightly refreshing, perfect for summer.

It is formulated with niacinamide, salicylic acid, prebiotics and Old Man Weed (an indigenous Australian plant with anti-inflammatory and soothing properties). A common misconception about oily skin is that it doesn’t need moisturizer, but not moisturizing the skin can actually cause the sebaceous glands to overproduce sebum to compensate. (TL; DR moisturizing oily skin is still important!).

The Sand & Sky Moisturizer felt really comfortable on my skin and I would definitely use it again, but I can’t say for sure that it made me feel less oily all day (but again, it’s quite a daunting task) . As a light moisturizer that didn’t blow me away, it passed with flying colors.

To the next product, the lightening face mask. I love a grease-absorbing mask, so I had a feeling I’d like Sand & Sky’s white clay formula for acne-prone complexions (it also came with a tapered application brush for extra facial vibes from spa). The product is the color of pistachio ice cream and has moisturizer-like ingredients for maximum oil absorption. My skin is not very sensitive, but I detected a tingling pinch as I spread it over the T-zone and cheeks. The directions say to leave it on for 10 minutes, but I rinsed it off after five the first time I tried it just to be safe. Even in a short time, I saw a visible difference in the appearance of my pores. Best of all, my skin didn’t feel very tight and dry afterwards, just dull and satin. I felt like my skin had promptly drank my serum and moisturizer, and every little rash felt like the air had come out of the gums. I haven’t used it for a long enough period of time to see if it has drastically curbed my fat glands or lit acne scars, but so far, I love it when my skin feels particularly congested.

Final thoughts

At £ 34.90 and £ 30.90, respectively, Sand & Sky’s Clearing Moisturizer and Clearing Face Mask are by no means cheap. But if you’re looking for solid products that are a step above high-end brands but not as expensive as luxury products, I recommend these wholeheartedly. You can also save nearly £ 10 by purchasing the brand’s Oil Control Skin Balance Kit, which retails for £ 65.80. Go ahead and shine (but not too much, this is where this stuff comes in).
